I played on the fact that Pettigrew went bad (all Harry Potter fans are revolted by his betrayal of James and Lilly Potter to Voldemort), and he was not in Slytherin (he was in Gryffindor, after all), so indirectly Ron says Pettigrew was not a bad wizard (although he couldn't know at the moment of that claim how things were, eh?)
