Maybe, but current methods are not harsh enough to be effective. Shoot them in the hand and make them pay for the bullet. You won't have to do it very much.

I agree it shouldn't be legal, just pointing out that every time the government gets involved it goes to hell.

There is no such thing as attempted manslaughter

No there isn't the best three comparisons would attempted murder which would require intent so by definition wouldn't be manslaughter, assault for voluntary, or Reckless endangerment for Involuntary.

Clears out the prison system, though. Put to death all child abusers, rapists, and murderers.

The lines seem to blur in some cases. The average, non-criminal person, may reconsider killing someone because of the death penalty. It certainly won't stop the hardened criminal. Texting and driving can't be attempted murder, like you say, because of the lack of intent.

... and of course the obvious irony.
