Absolutely. I'm not referring to substance abuse. I'm referring to the long list of questionable behavioral 'addictions,' like video games, shopping, porn, internet, love, etc and blah, blah, blah.
I should add that this is why substance abuse counselors avoid using this term and instead refer to chemical dependency. 'Addiction' has been used as an intensifier, thrown around to describe the strength of some habit. Unfortunately, it seems 'traumatic' is headed the same way.
You can choose to look to look at it that way. There are those who do, and that is part of what makes 'behavioral addictions' controversial. I choose to err on the side of taking too much responsibility, rather than too little.
