Back in the UK, it only got cancelled if you couldn't get out the front door!!!

Same in Minnesota, I often joke where in Kentucky they close down everything when they see the snow falling, but in Minnesota -19 degrees the parent would say GO TO SCHOOL BILLY

Vest, shirt, jumper duffle coat, two pairs of socks, wellies, beanie and thick gloves.
Then we would just roll down the road to school :-)
We would play football (soccer) in shorts in the snow, man if you get hit with a heavy, wet ball - you would cry :-(

Nowadays, they close it for anything. Cincinnati today has freezing rain this morning. It's not too bad, my hour drive to work was an hour and 10 minutes. But, a bunch of schools are closed or mostly delayed.
