*sighs* We have gun control laws. We have laws restricting the sale of guns to people who should not have them.
What we also have are people who BREAK THE LAW.
So really, what you're wanting is simply: MORE LAW ENFORCEMENT.
But then, you know...this country pretty much crapped on police, so now most sane people don't want to become one...so yeah, good luck with that!
But seriously, we have laws. We don't need more laws that say the same thing or that restrict "special guns" because here's why:
Most major gun violence is done with a handgun. NOBODY wants to talk about restricting handguns, because it's political suicide. Why?
Women need them for protection!
Bodyguards and security need them for work!
Outdoorsmen need something to protect them from the wild!
They will *never* get rid of handguns Federally. It's just not going to happen.
So what they will go after are "assault weapons" which to them means "Anything with more than a 10rd detachable magazine..." and not, you know...the *actual* definition, "A weapon that can fire semi or fully automatic at user discretion."
Hell, our military rifles are not even assault weapons anymore. They're semi-auto with a limited 3rd burst fire mode. They can't even go fully automatic.
So what they say is, "We want 10rd mags in semi-auto rifles/pistols/etc." Okay, so what they want is a Federal version of a California gun law that doesn't stop people from killing other people with guns in California, it just makes them reload more often if they have to kill a whole lot of people.
10rd magazine just means criminals can kill up to 10 people before having to pause for about 2 seconds (average time to drop n' swap)...not really going to help, now is it?
tl;dr: We don't need better gun laws, we need better enforcement of current laws and we need to stop stupid people from making laws about things they know nothing about.
