Professor John Lott is still right, "More guns = less crime". These killings are happening in 'gun-free' victim disarmament zones, because would-be killers KNOW they can succeed in doing their evil. When law-abiding people are empowered to defend themselves and others, would-be perps think twice.

I think our gun laws are currently impeccable, accept for the age 21 restrictions on assault rifles.

Despite the mass shootings, California has one of the lowest gun related death rates in the country. You are right that gun control laws will never prevent all tragedies, but you are wrong in thinking that gun control laws don't improve the situation.

Hmm, I never mentioned those things, but I think suicides are a significant part of gun deaths. A sensible form of gun control would try to identify people who are at risk for suicide. I suppose the original meme is taking about "evil acts", my guess is that even if you factor out suicides, (are police shootings significant in the stats? - I'm not sure), places with more gun control have less gun deaths. This is certainly true when you compare other countries to the United States. Also if someone wants to murder someone, they might not care about the laws, but the laws could make it more difficult for them to obtain a weapon.
