First song: singer trys to get girl/guy to a point of unhealthy obsesion

Second song: singer gets girl/guy and loundly complains about her/him not being enough

Third song: singer gets dumped, sings for 3 minutes trying to get girl/guy back, revealing the utter artillery shell that the girl/guy just dodged

Insert an unnatural amount of twerking and inaudibale wailing and you have yourself a top 25 hit

Songs like this can work if lyrics are good. For example, "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads, or "Shake Hands with Beef" by Primus. :D

Actually I agree with you. There are also a few where the repeated lyrics work, when they be come part of the music or a kind of mantra - Shanna-Na-Na Hey Jude.
