It's estimated that tax payers pay WalMart employees throughout the U.S. an average of $750,000 a yr per store in gov assistance so they have enough to eat. THAT, is welfare. Pay workers what they need to live, return to a market based economy and reduce the size of government. People will earn enough to eat. It's pretty simple. Right now we have no market based economy. We have none of what you believe in and we are paying through the nose so that the working poor can eat.

In no way to we have a free market economy. When we are buying crap from China, made by kids who earn 5.00 a day, there is no free market. And why do Walmart employee's work 10hrs a week and 3 other jobs? You think it is because they want to? No, they do so because that is the model Walmart has invented to keep health insurance and labor costs to a minimum. We all suffer because of it. Sure, stuff is a little cheaper but we are racking up a trillion in debt this year. I owned apartment buildings for 20yrs. I know what the poor spend money on. Yes, they buy cigarettes and other things they shouldn't, just like the rest of us. They also have sex, just like the rest of us. They are people who for the most part, don't know any better and/or, have no other choices in life. When you have nothing, how are you going to go back to school to improve yourself? Next to impossible. The massive amount of fraud in welfare? I didn't see it. Yes, the people are living on the margins. Yes, they spend money on things they shouldn't. But, they are just trying to have a little life, like the rest of us. They have nothing and I wouldn't trade places with them for anything in the world. People will always make poor life decisions. Does that mean we should give welfare to them so that employers don't have to pay them what it takes to survive? That makes no sense. No, don't guilt companies into paying people what is required. Mandate it. Changing the minimum wage does not grow the economy. It is changing a number. A percentage. If companies are working at such a low margin that they can't survive, maybe they shouldn't be in business. Yes. Some jobs will be lost. Who cares what American poverty translates to in Mexico? Are we leveling ourselves with Mexico now? Why would we want to do that? We do NOT have a free market. We do NOT have a market based economy. Those are talking points on the right that are not reality. If people are working and still need gov assistance to survive, there is no free market. Just to clarify, I don't believe the right OR the left, is correct. One has their heads buried in the sand to reality, the other is too compassionate.

Government control creates and fosters monopolies? What? In what way has government control of healthcare, fostered monopolies and spiraled costs? It is the free market that has fostered an out of control healthcare system.

Ronald Reagan is long since dead. I voted for him at least once myself. However misguided his thoughts were, (trickledown being the greatest single killer of the American middle class) he was a great leader. We have long since past quoting "gov is the cause, not the solution".

Is 20 hours a week at $7 an hour better than zero hours a week at $15?

Depends on who you are. If you have a family to feed, it likely isn't.

I couldn't agree more about the creation of regulatory environments raising barriers to entry. But, those laws are NOT the government. They are created by elected officials. The elected officials most responsible for doing so are on the right. We have control over that if we choose to vote. The government you're talking about isn't some arbitrary monster. It's based on who we elect and campaign finance. Just what justices chose to call companies people? What side of the isle wants to give large companies the right to throttle the internet? The list goes on and on.

I know that I wrote 20hrs a week is worse than nothing. With a family and with what things cost today, I wouldn't waste half a working week for $7 and hour and most other people wouldn't either. With wear and tear on a vehicle, gasoline, clothing, daycare, I'd be losing money. I'd do better sitting at home with my kids.

There is nothing wrong with government regulation. It is responsible for the safety we see in our cars, for our clean air, for our roads, nearly everything that makes modern life what it is. You criticize my examples yet you off NONE of your own. Nice.

Net neutrality is a giant leftist scam? I suppose climate change is too? Jeez. Hopeless conversation.
