Trustee spots are were it's at. In Texas inmates are free labor for the prison system. So instead manual labor in the fields, laundry or kitchen a trustee spot is usually a sweet gig. It may have its benefits like more food or some treats but it's usually done to stay away from tough labor and have time out of their cells.

Despite common belief, prison is NOT like staying at a hotel (and if you think it is, you're staying at the WRONG hotels). For many prisons, the only ways to get money for stuff (like soap and deodorant) is for someone it to you, or to work on the yard.
