Three options. Someone donated their own money, thus making it free FOR YOU. Someone was robbed to make it free FOR YOU. You add some value or are yourself something else which is sold, to make up the difference.
True. I was thinking of "free" stuff on the internet but "free" education, healthcare, etc. also has to come from somewhere. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
