Have you ever heard of maladaptive daydreaming syndrome? It's where a person literally can't stop their daydreams. Crazy!

I'm always spaced out.

There's nothing about it that makes you crazy or a danger or in need of a straight jacket or anything. There is also no treatment for it. I find that the worst that ever happens to me is I get very agitated when someone interrupts my daydreams. I always have some plot swirling away in the background during every thing I do. I can think of worse things to have!

I've always thought that it sounded like someone trying to judge or discriminate against creative, imaginative people by making up some kind of fake disorder. It's an aggressive behavioral definition, a term that I just made up, which refers to the attempt to pathologize the normal. The treatment is making the world a better place.

You just put into words what I never could. I think "they" need to find a way to classify these kinds of things. It can be difficult to accept that "normal" just isn't what a textbook claims it is. I have decided that what determines a "disorder" is anything that seems to disrupt the life of a person. I can say mine is mildly disrupted because this often prevents me from getting out of bed on time or from falling asleep, and generally getting things done.

I think that the need to "treat" every little quirk we have is getting out of hand.

I think it also makes a difference that you are the one making that determination, rather than someone writing a textbook.
