As of 2017, the population of Puerto Rico was 3.337 million - and the 2017 population of the United States 325,700,000. Thus, in 2017 there were 97.6 times as many Americans as there were Puerto Ricans. By multiplying Puerto Rico's Hurricane Maria death toll of 2975 by 97.6, the number of Puerto Ricans who died in in that storm -- adjusted for population -- was the equivalent of 290,360 dead U.S. mainlanders. (When I orignally made the meme, I must have used a similar but slightly different statistic.) If you disagree with my math, please provide a thorough explanation of your math. Thanks.
