Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976) was a German theoretical physicist and one of the key pioneers of quantum mechanics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1932. He was a Lutheran and a member of Germany's largest Protestant religious body, the Evangelische Kirche. He said,
