So what right do you not have. I was wandering because I asked my wife if she had some rights taken away when i wasn't paying attention. She said no she had not. So if you could please explain to me why we should vote for someone based on their sex and not their, qualifications or positions on certain matters.

Proportional sounds good in theory but doesn't seem to make that much difference in actual practice.

Thanks for the question! Proportional representation naturally elects more women. When you get to vote for who you want, and the vote reflects the popular vote, more diversity results. Countries with PR elect around 10% more women than countries with winner-take-all systems. Winner-take-all systems tend to result in less diversity in general - gender, ethnic and political diversity.
