My mom used to ask them if they'd like her evangelical literature, and that usually sent them running, but sometimes they'd stay and all have a nice visit. My mother, however, was not ever lacking for friends. Upvoted you!

I engaged a couple of different JW teams (always in pairs, right?) that staked out the library in town. I tried to be nothing but friendly but after I asked some serious questions and started a dialog both teams were replaced with people who won't talk to me...
Life goes on, so does the learning. ;^)

Our neighbor is Mormon, so she sends people to our house, because they know my husband will talk to them. They get credit for talking, I guess. They're really nice and usually call first to see if it's a good time. She and I talk about anything but religion, we're pretty chill.

We were non-denominational Missionaries in Northern Nevada for about half a year in a remote mining town called Gabbs. The only other church in town was the Mormon one, but they don't have pastors or professional leaders that are usual in Christian churches. The Mormons were good neighbors though and we worked together for the good of the community every chance we got. Like many churches and Alcoholics Anonymous we were working on the idea of "attraction, not promotion" and that is so much more relaxed than trying to sell our beliefs, or arguing about theology. As a Libertarian I am committed to letting all people decide spiritual questions for themselves. I think that's the American way, don't you.

I personally believe in a God who's not picky about human foibles and mistakes, but still hates sins, because they mess up creation and humanity. I believe how one practices and believes is the American way, too.

I don't think we have a big Jehovah's Witness group around here. I don't think I've ever seen them.
