When I get a comment with meme, I often go to that memer's catalogue and up-vote their most recent dozen memes and comment on the ones that I think are funniest and/or ones for which a counter-meme or reply jumps out. Then I try to reply in kind if a dialog or conversation develops.
In two years only one or two of my memes have hit big with imgflipers, never to the "front page" level. These conversations provide the meat of my imgflip experience. This and a few sparing matches with a few trolls-which I happily avoid these days.
