Funny how liberals think the only way to solve a problem is to restrict freedom. Except for international borders — then it’s all “don’t restrict people from crossing”.

Gay folks were always free to marry. They just want to be controlled by the government like the rest of us. Can you measure stupid?

Did you not read my previous comments?
Here, let me spell it out for you. Gay people have always been able to marry someone of the opposite sex. That’s because marriage has always been defined that way until recently. Now, people have tried to redefine “marriage” to include same sex couples and the Supreme Court mandated this new definition.
Thus my meme saying siblings can get married - just not to each other . . . until enough people convince the Supreme Court to allow that too.

Because marriage has always been between two people of the opposite sex.

The problem is, they redefined marriage in an attempt to legitimize homosexual relationships. Most states already granted (or were in the process of granting) the same rights to same sex couples as they do to married couples. But that wasn’t good enough. They wanted the “marriage” title, as if that would somehow force everyone to see same sex “married” couples the same as traditional married couples. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your point of view) that hasn’t worked.

Bit coin didn’t redefine money. That’s like saying confederate script redefined money. It’s just another medium of exchange.

You’re trying to equate race with behavior. Nobody was prohibiting same sex couples from using the same fountains, waiting rooms or lunch counters as married couples.
Why not redefine the title “PHD” to include anyone who spends the same time and money but isn’t accademically inclined to pass the tests? Then everyone can be entitled to that title. Why? Because it cheapens what the title means.

After the Netherlands started recognizing same sex “marriages” a couple decades ago, they noticed a decline in the number of young couples getting married at all - heteral or homosexual. It’s because the marriage had become meaningless to them. The same thing is happening in the US.

Being attracted to someone else isn’t the behavior, it’s acting on that attraction. Married Heterosexuals are attracted to the opposite sex all the time. It doesn’t mean they should act on that attractions. Even though adultery isn’t illegal, it’s still immoral, as is homosexuality. What about people who are only sexually attracted to immediate family members? Should sibling marriages be legalized? How about underage marriage. Is denying underage couples the right to marry “ageism”? How about polygamy, beastiality, etc?

Denying gay people the rights you stated is discrimination. But not calling same sex couples “married” isn’t discrimination.

The PHD analogy is to show how restricting titles to certain groups isn’t discrimination - like denying the title of “marriage” to same sex couples isn’t. Saying it’s unfair to deny gay people the right to be married is like saying it’s unfair to deny a PHD to someone because they are not accademically inclined - they were born that way, not their choice - see the analogy?

The info about the Netherlands came from a seminar I attended several years ago. It was before US states started to recognize same sex marriages. Sorry, but not every bit of info is posted on the Internet.

Since you bring up the Bible, then you should understand that marriage was not created by man, but by God. Adam and Eve were husband and wife. Secular society adopted the practice. That’s why fornication and adultery was illegal at one time. Secular society has, and continues to, abandon the principles taught by God’s prophets. Most of our laws were based on biblical teaching, originally.

Homosexuality falls in the same category as adultery, fornication, and is considered an impure practice. Like adulatory, it was once illegal and homosexual marriages were a perversion.

Yes, polygamy was practiced in biblical times. It was also practiced in modern times and currently practiced openly in some places and not so openly in the US. There were practical reasons for it. For example, women used to not be able to own land. There were more women than men so, if a woman’s husband died, she needed to be married to avoid being evicted and polygamy fit the bill while still adhering to God’s law.

As far as marriage not being something you earn, I have to disagree with that too. Marriage is something you earn and have to work at to keep it working. Of course today couples tend to get divorced as if it’s just another stage of their relationship - many times due to adultery.

Families are the building blocks of society and have been under attack for decades. Talk about causing harm to others, think about what is happening to society due to the collapse of families with a mother and father to rear children. We’ve resorted to letting schools and TV do all the teaching because we’re preoccupied with sex, money, drugs, etc. Same sex marriage is just another stab at families and, thus, society as a whole.

“I understand that the Bible *says* marriage was created by god, but since I'm an atheist, I don't believe that.”

That’s a convenient copout. Since you don’t believe in God, prophets, scripture, etc. my standard of immorality won’t make any sense to you. Maybe you should look to the health issues involved since you don’t think people’s behavior should be bridled unless it directly hurts someone else.
