Since you bring up the Bible, then you should understand that marriage was not created by man, but by God. Adam and Eve were husband and wife. Secular society adopted the practice. That’s why fornication and adultery was illegal at one time. Secular society has, and continues to, abandon the principles taught by God’s prophets. Most of our laws were based on biblical teaching, originally.
Homosexuality falls in the same category as adultery, fornication, and is considered an impure practice. Like adulatory, it was once illegal and homosexual marriages were a perversion.
Yes, polygamy was practiced in biblical times. It was also practiced in modern times and currently practiced openly in some places and not so openly in the US. There were practical reasons for it. For example, women used to not be able to own land. There were more women than men so, if a woman’s husband died, she needed to be married to avoid being evicted and polygamy fit the bill while still adhering to God’s law.
As far as marriage not being something you earn, I have to disagree with that too. Marriage is something you earn and have to work at to keep it working. Of course today couples tend to get divorced as if it’s just another stage of their relationship - many times due to adultery.
Families are the building blocks of society and have been under attack for decades. Talk about causing harm to others, think about what is happening to society due to the collapse of families with a mother and father to rear children. We’ve resorted to letting schools and TV do all the teaching because we’re preoccupied with sex, money, drugs, etc. Same sex marriage is just another stab at families and, thus, society as a whole.
