FYI This was Never the Flag of the CSA... it is the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia... Like most 'symbols of the south' it was retired when the war ended...

It wasn't until the 20th Century with 50th/100th Anniversary dates of Civil War Events were being noted that saw the Flag taken out of Mothballs... For much of the 60s, 70s and 80s the Flag was Nothing more than pop Culture shorthand for 'The South', with no more meaning to the Flyer, or the Viewer than "I'm from There" (or "my agent told me you'd buy more content if you think I am")

It was these anniversaries and the Rise of the Civil rights fights that say 'the Klan' start to use them, Not because of what they Meant 100 years ago, but because they were easy to find thanks to the 'pop culture'

I don't disagree with what you are saying above, but you have to know there is a reason segregationist organizations use the flag whether they lived in the south or not. It is not just because it is easy to find and they like the look.

I'd wager 7 in 10 Present day 'Klansmen' (I can't even give them the Validity of calling them 'Supremacists', because too many look like they took an Evolutionary step backwards) don't have a Clue That it was Never a 'proper' Flag of the CSA

and if it weren't at least a Little about 'ease of access' you'd see at least as many 'Real' Flags as the BFNV at their rallies (instead It's usually just this one, a couple Nazi ones and a few 'Sect Specific' ones that they designed/commissioned themselves
- they've got the Graphic Artists and Seamstresses to make their own, but they won't have 'authentic' Flags made?
