Liberals like to say we are part of a global market, but want to mandate high minimum wages of $15 an hour locally. If we are part of a global market, then our workers are competing directly with workers from other countries who will eagerly work for $5 an hour. Tariffs are one way of inflating the prices of external good and encouraging consumers to buy locally produced goods.
