Nope. It's a popular myth that's been drilled into people's heads. The Taliban was created by Pakistani Islamic militants who's ultimate goal was to turn Pakistan and Afghanistan into a big United Islamic Front against India. They teamed up with Al-Qaeda (who was also falsely accused of being backed by the USA) to take over the Afghan government after the communist were gone, and once they were in charge, the left told everybody we were to blame for the Islamic tyranny.
