Heaven or Hell

Well, if you read Dante's Divine Comedy, the Inferno is a cold place, and Satan is in a frozen lake because he's in the furthest place from God's glory, brilliance and warmth. That's all I got from my classic Italian lit class.

Different layers of hell. There's said to be 9 "circles", one of them a frozen lake. I think they covered that in What Dreams May Come (1998) with Robin Williams. In the New Testament, Jesus tells his disciples the story of the rich man and the beggar where he points out there being fire. Luke16:24 "So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’" And in the movie As Above So Below (2014), they covered the idea of hell being narrow tunnels instead of a huge open space, symbolic of being isolated from God.

I remember that, too, and I’d think about it whenever someone says “cold as hell”.

Don’t try using this as an excuse to be bad, though, because you also have to remember that souls in heaven are immortal.
