Somebody should make some memes about repost whiners. Oh wait that's me :)

Somebody should IP ban them. People who don't enjoy reposts should never be welcome on a meme site for any reason.

Re: Stolen Memes Week.

I think Stolen Memes Weeks are generally a good idea, but couldn't it just fan the flames and get more complaints?

Both are true, and for other reasons now may not be a good time. I'll have to think about when to do it. I'm hoping I can convince clinkster to co-sponsor. I'll send you dates I get something confirmed.

Well OK maybe that was a bit harsh, about the IP ban. There are some really good users on the site who happen not to like reposts, and I'd probably be sorry to see them gone.

I just don't get why they don't see that reposts are often the best memes. But more than that, complaining about something never stops people from doing it. It's like political memes. If people want to make them, they'll make them. People who don't like reposts should just downvote them.

When I was new, I didn't downvote anything for a long time, like my first seven or eight months. I don't downvote very often, I'm more of an upvote or scroll by user. There are times it's called for though.

I wish there was an analogous tab to imgflip.com/favorites for tracking your downvotes, I would be interested to see what my downvote count is and it would be an easy way to reach the old ones.

I try to be sparing with downvotes when I'm in Latest, and generous with downvotes in Hot.

IP ban the creative ones. Stunningly bright move for a meme "creation" site. I remember when you used to encourage creativity, hell nourish it. I know reposts never really bothered you but to encourage a week around reposts? Come on man. I don't care all that much about them when they aren't over-running the site. But when you have 2 of the same repost on the front page for 3 days and other good memes not making it, its gotten out of hand. I'm one and done with the anti-repost meme and from the upvotes it got and the comments, I'm far from alone in my opinion of them.

I'm so f**king tired of people making up random shit about me ("you used to encourage creativity, hell nourish it") and then using it to try to wheedle and manipulate me into supporting their f**ked-up causes. I hate repost whiners, and always have.

The whole point of making memes is to get them reposted. That's the point of making a meme. Reposts are foundational to what memes are. If your meme has not been reposted yet, it's not yet even a meme. It's just a lame captioned picture on a website. The fact that memes get reposted shows that they've succeeded.

If you haven't learned this, you don't even understand meme-making 101. That's why repost whiners have absolutely no place on a meme site. They're against everything that memes are about.

And fyi, no, repost whiners are not the creative ones (there are a few exceptions, but by and large, they are the worst contributors). They're whining out of a sense of entitlement. They expect their lame, strained "original" memes to get the same play as tried and true winners, and they want to force the issue and get upvotes that don't come to them naturally. It's unrealistic and frankly f**king moronic.

I can (barely) tolerate repost whiners existing on a site, as long as they shut the f**k up about it. As soon as they speak up, they make themselves the enemy of everything good about meme-making, and therefore enemies of anyone who loves memes and loves imgflip. They need to shut the f**k up or get off the site.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that. You were the one that actually got my creativity going. You encouraged using clipart and .png files to enhance the memes. You also always had encouraging words for fresh memes. You even advised me how to take an idea I had and make my 1st front page meme out of it. Your Kermit vs Sean encouraged many of us to branch out and look for new images and new "stories". So if reminding you that you encouraged and even nurtured creativity offends you somehow, I'll remember not to do that again. I wasn't looking for you to come out and support my cause, I have no cause. I said my piece with my one submission and that's that. I will admit the "ban" comment got to me otherwise I would have read, maybe left a few upvotes and moved on. I guess that's the way of the world anymore. "Believe like I do or shut the f*ck up." Sorry old friend, that it got to you that way. You were always one on here that I genuinely liked.

Came back to see how this meme was doing. Theme weeks can be fun and also made fun of. Seems like some users are struggling with this place being fun or funny, I'm not the only one trying to get back to that. You don't have to love, hate or be neutral on reposts or use a repost for Stolen Memes Week™ plenty of original content was submitted with the stolen memes week tag. Just ask Jying imgflip.com/i/1svj6r

That's the point, the fun and funny go together. The meme wars that went on in the comments were some of the most fun I've had online. Again I'm not completely against reposts, but you have users who do nothing but and I have to ask what they get out of submitting. I can see enjoying reading others and the conversations, that makes sense whether you submit or not. Trying to take an existing meme and making it better makes sense. But copying Asian father with the exact same caption that google returns 5-6 of the exact meme is well, boring. I really didn't mean to go on a crusade about this, and whether anyone picked up on it or not I've proven my point to me that you can be on the leaderboard with original submissions and without using canned comments just to get upvotes.

Its either new to someone or old to another. But the writer is an always becomes the forgotten artists . Credit is due where original material is oriented.
