Having volunteered at a know kill shelter I can tell you it's appreciated too!

UGH! The very thought of kill shelters sickens me. I cannot imagine how horrible a job in such a shelter must be. The shelter where I adopted dear sweet Tater wasn't a kill shelter, but he transferred in from one. They have such a rapid turnover for animals at this one they regularly take in loads of dogs and cats from shelters even from surrounding states. I went in one time and they were slap full, but I couldn't find a good match and all the smaller dogs were on hold due to having been recently spayed/neutered. I went back a week later and they were completely empty in the small dog section and half of the big dogs were gone. I would love to see the day when kill shelters don't exist. Or rather have the means to avoid killing any animal simply because they are homeless.

It's was much different with the one I volunteered at. Everything was about the animals, making them comfortable and happy. And it's not like dogs don't know how to say thank-you :)

That's good. At least they tried to be good to them before .... you know. *GULP*
And yeah, dogs definitely are good at saying thank you! I felt so bad for Tater at first. When I saw him in there he got off of his little bed and walked over so I could pet him, but if I turned away to look and see if a volunteer was coming to help me he tucked in his tail and went back to his bed. It made me happy to see him relax and get comfortable in my home with my family. I tell you though, it's hard walking past all those sad eyes in a shelter. I would adopt all of them if I could.

Dogs would definitely be easy to horde. You should post a picture of him on here.
