Maintaining popularity on this site is a lot of work. You have to be able to create things. Create an understanding of the audience and what they like. Create memes that are original and make people smile. Create relationships with other meme makers. And also create time to be a part of the community on a regular basis.
Some people want instant gratification. They make some memes they think are funny and want everybody to tell them how great they are. Some take it further and blame others or find excuses why they can't succeed with minimal effort. They feel they deserve to be popular and create fake accounts to make it appear that way. Which in turn floods the pages with crap memes or reposts nobody wants to see while hurting the chances of people that are really trying.
They miss out on the entire point of all of it. You make stuff and see how it does and learn from it. The more memes you make the easier it is because you learn the history of them as you go. Basically if you don't love it you are bound to end up hating it eventually. You can only fake it for so long until you either put in the work or get tired of pretending, How good can it really feel to have a meme do good because you alt upvoted it or reposted something you found on google?
