One need only read his letter to Hubbard Taylor written 1794 Nov 15 in reference to the outcome of the Whiskey Rebellion, to see what he thought of insurrection, which is what many so-called patriots are talking about.

He however assumes the legitimacy of the laws, but you would have to concede he himself was complicit with an insurrection against a tyrannical illegitimacy. So not to burst your bubble, but he did not endorse the position of the historical domestic Tory either.
