When looking up statistics of drunk driving it said over 50% of all fatal highway crashes involving two or more vehicles are alcohol related. Over 65% of all fatal single vehicle crashes are alcohol related. Every day 28 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This is one death every 51 minutes.
That is just fatalities. Factor in the people who suffered permanent injury and it is a lot more. Not to mention the families that are ruined from alcohol consumption. The dad who spends all his money on booze. The mother too drunk to properly care for her family. The suicide it leads to.
I realize these stats may not be as much as guns. But guns do serve a greater purpose than getting drunk. If politicians truly cared about preventing death why would they not tackle other issues as fanatically as they do the 2nd Amendment?
And is it moot to point out that tobacco products is still the number one preventable death?
