I only wish that that was so 100% of the time. Sadly it will not even work as a deterrent for those that are committed to gaining bad guy fame. I also don't want teachers carrying (the amility to get you your weapon without a kid getting it is very difficult. I am a retired toddler teacher) if you watched me carry a full cup of coffee across a room - you would keep me as far away from pointy objects, bows and arrows (just about shot myself in the foot in gym class long ago), and guns. I am a huge proponent for the martial arts. Studied judo for over 10 years (started at 40) came close earning my black belt but my knees and back didn't cooperate. I consider those that wear blue and carry a shield are pulled in so many difficult directions due to the rise in opioid use and overdose, domestic violence, and mental illness that does not get treated - with the stuff that is coming at them they are doing an amazing job. Thanks again so much for your comment and the ability to have a dialog.

A teacher concealed carrying a firearm would be a choice, and is in Texas as with School Marshalls. This authorization requires training greater than a concealed carry permit but less than a Texas Peace Officer. Self realization that this responsibility is not suited for you is the first step, but for others it would be suitable, such as a veteran who got into teaching through the Troops to Teachers initiative. This is only a mild deterrence as some with thus goal will sort it out somehow, but an armed intervention will reduce the severity of the situation, as in quantity. My opinions are formed based on being a Texas Peace Officer for 4 years and seeing the most effective handling of any kind of crime was when those on the scene intervened (citizens arrest, detaining, armed intervention, etc..) law enforcement can get there from however far they were when they were sent there. And from my experience, When things go bad, even with light, sirens, and the car going as fast as it would, I could not get there quick enough.

I am hoping that he would be at the right place at the right time, be able to assess the situation - real or toy/prop for a school skit or play, not be in the bathroom, on patrol away from the entry point, not flirting with the very cute 1st grade teacher, etc. all of us are human and only able to do what we can with what we have available - me - I am a judo person and would rather maim than kill. Thanks much for your comment! I appreciate the dialog.

Like in my other comment, School Marshalls are armed teachers or staff who just have an added responsibility. But one person can only be in one place at a time, that is why ultimate would be better. And with school Marshalls, only the principal, assistant principle, and the School Resource Officer (peace officer appointed to the school) know the identities of the school Marshalls. But when a weapon is involved with imminent serious bodily injury or death is possible, all the training teaches shoot to end the threat. If it is a prop weapon looking to be the real thing, the training teaches it is real until absolutely known otherwise because innocent lives are at stake if it happens to be real. And there is case law to back up the protecting party for that exact instance. But again being a school Marshall is a choice and a chosen acceptance of that responsibility by the individual.
