Apparently, if you fought for self-determination in the 1770s, you were a Revolutionary War hero. But if you fought for self-determination in the 1860s, you were merely Rebel scum. And it was OK for the government to pave the way for the North to have industrialization, while FORCING the South to stay with agriculture and then FORCING the sale of that agriculture to the North instead of seeking better prices overseas. Oh... let's not forget that the stuff the North produced was so heavily taxed that it wasn't even affordable to those in the South.
Small wonder the South finally said "Screw this...we want outta here!"
