Nope, I still keep in touch with him in other ways. He was an extremely popular user with many friends.

Long story short, on a site that revolves around originality, usurping any other username past or present is not the best idea. Lots of good name possibilities out there! You'll go farther with one of your own creation.

Raycat is a little different, I was there when that one started, and it was a joke between myself (the other user who is raycat and actually predated all of us on the site) and one or 2 others.

Since it was a joke it was different? : I'm sorry but I don't see much difference. Is Raydog not a very loved member? (In all seriousness)

It was different because raydog was a part of the creation. It actually came about when another user was making up similar names to other users. Several of us were discussing the topic on a meme when one disappeared and suddenly raycat appeared.

Greatest conspiracy theory on Imgflip. Invicta returns as himself, but of course I'm not him because I have basically the same name. :) It would be the perfect cover

No offense or slight to your advice, but I've looked around on here and reposts of memes are super common, even within a couple days or weeks. (And lots of higher level users do it too. Not just very new members such as myself)

I know its done, and done often. I don't agree with it. I don' know how it feels to make the front page with a repost, but I do know how good it feels with an original marriage of image and thought. If you choose to repost its your choice but I think you miss out on the best part of the site.
