Just got back from a week fishing, caught some decent size bream and tailor (bluefish), but the highlight of the trip was when a seagull picked up my lure of the ground and flew of with it, rod and reel still attached and then dropped in the river about 25m out from shore! After buying a mask and swimming around to no avail, I attached a lure retriever (lead weight basically) and trawled it along the bottom of the river. After 15 minutes, I actually snagged the lure and gingerly hauled the whole outfit back to shore!

That's a great story!

I actually run a fly fishing retail web site. Google Percy’s Flies if you are curious. So I would have welcomed a sale of $500 in gear. Albeit, it sounds like you weren’t using fly fishing gear.

That's great to know, I'll check it out as I'm using very light tackle, land based only, so have used some the gear that the fly guys use, nail knot tool, zingers for forceps etc and some of the clothing and a pack, which I had to get from Scotland! I will keep it mind, plus the local fly shop guy keeps trying to get me to come over to the dark side :-)

I buy most of mine at pawn shops for next to nothing. She still says I need to get rid of some though. She can't imagine why I'd ever need more than one rod and reel lol
