Yeah. I don't trip. But the 'straight truth' isn't as often as true as we think, either.
I always laughed at myself for Zapruder-ing various episodes for uncharted surf and potential. That kind of Gold was rarely to be found - in SPITE of the ridiculous surf potential at most of the coastal locations that he visited. At best you might get a corny interview with a local surfer...but more likely, a complete kook.
Type Fort Point into youtube + big surf or surfers.
Itz a slop fest 90% of the time. But at LOW tide...with a Good Swell...Waves at the very top of the point, and behind it - breaking right in Front of and along the exposed rocks, can be adequately hollow, quite good, possibly even sizeable....and well protected from winds SE-SW and on a bit to -NW even. Good for Storm surf. Anyway...he'd be in danger of getting splashed right there. I'd shoot on Surf days and uze a lavalier mic instead. Better action within the frame - while he talks about ALL the stories .. that point could tell you...
;)
