Madel is a German word for lady friend. (As in girls night out). Rarely used nowadays according to wiki. Except for when spellcheck needs to f__k with your memes! ;-)

Check the "School of Athens" (Raffaelo, Vatican) Wikipedia tells you who the guy in the picture is. And it tells you a lot more ...... (teh GErman Wikipedia article is better than the English one).

Ah if only that were the biggest complaint about Americans! ;-). I was actually fluent in Spanish but that was many years ago, and I was able to practice the language daily. I have a smattering of many different languages, as I'm a bit of an etymologist. English is great for many things, however a complex language that it is. But that also makes it very versatile, with song lyrics and memes, to use two examples.

Let's see whether we con go on communicating. I know very little about movies, TV series ans present day "popular" music, simply for lack of time, not because I wouldn't like it - I have and want to read a lot about natural science, and that is time-consuming.

If you have enough time (what i myself don't have, unfortunately), dig more into them with bilingual literature editions (e.g. Dante, Goethe). It' s really fascinating. Enlish is really great for some things - for others it's terrible (e.g. when you have to be really exact with the lanugage)!
