Sometimes... even TO surfing. I use a bike for most things. I took a bike (and buses and Trains) to Mavericks and Santa Cruz once - super bitchin' - but a gnarly and frigid grind - not recommended.
The Jetty in the middle photo is BEST accessed by bike - no metermaids or long walks...
So yes. I'm in Venice most often. Roughly mid-bay. With a bus assist I can easily get as far as Leo Carrillo (and I often do in the Summer - if the local options aren't happening - itz fun, rippable in many formats - from longboard to short, kneeboard or even a boogie, and a sure thing if there's waves and >~= 1 ft of tide. If lower - bodysurfing N of the point can be quite good, towards the REAL county line - where Donny's memorial takes place in the Big Lebowski.) To the South, the OC'S a pain of a mission - even with buses and trains. Seal is too far, realistically. But PV has some quiet secret spotz - one right beneath a loudmouthz golf course - if you catch my drift...in the bend. And I've managed that. But my usual range for an actual ride-to-surf is from Redondo Breakwater (Haggerty's - Torrance, RB Avenues, too but I almost never... ) on the South... To the North - to about Surfrider beach in Malibu. Buses stop going into Malibu at 8PM...and I like the Malibu crowd best from about 10 PM to 7AM, usually - I've been known to get OUT at sunrise.
With a working whip...I travel far and wide.
