I've noticed a meme that was recently downvoted to submitted status is now climbing in Viral. Check the comments for a link

It's because it got shared outside imgflip. Most of the viral stuff is because it goes viral off site. That's why they have so many views, but so few upvotes by comparison.

True! I saw this one feature last night with about 300 views. imgflip.com/i/22h3up I made a prediction in the comments there about where it would land today in the Viral pages. I think since there are unsubmitted meme comments and unsubmitted creations in the Viral stream, stuff in Viral can't be downvoted to submitted. I think the whole Viral thing might be a partially related result of the down with downvotes campaign.
