Of course it's sarcasm! We would burn alive if the sun was that close!

Not if it is smaller and not as hot. I will admit I have a bias in this topic, but on both sides the biggest problem seems to be cherry-picking certain parts of either model without the right variables to go with it. On the flat-earth side, they usually do this by neglecting inertia. The round-earthers usually make this mistake in the form of thinking that gravity still applies in the flat-earth model

If gravity doesn't exist in the flat earth model, then we would all be floating around. An eternal downwards motion is basically gravity as it follows the same equation.

My bad, by "gravity" I was referring to universal gravitation (which would pull things toward the middle of a disc-shaped earth). The enclosed flat-earth model I am most familiar with uses a system of buoyancy and density to explain why things have a tendency to go down

Ah. That makes sense. what is the jist of this system?

Stuff that's less dense than any whatever liquid or gas it is in goes up, more dense goes down. Not sure that it exactly explains why up is up and down is down, though (best thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with the shape of the dome, but idk)

Ok. Assuming that the earth is flat, it seems like a plausible theory.

Imgflip has an autocorrect function in the meme generator? That’s pretty high-speed! Even if it gets it wrong sometimes I’m impressed!

it's phase as everything else..
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
GOD

To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.

I was going to be super angry if you were to try and use the Bible to prove the flat earth, but thank goodness you used it instead to explain the occurrences of the world today.

There is no "Flat Earth Model." You say that like its a legitimate school of thought or something. Dear Lord Baby Jesus you guys can't be serious.

The point of this meme is that they aren't right. But you have told me that there is no school of thought for the flat earth when there obviously is, like the flat earth society.
2 ups, 6y,

Fair point. I will be more specific. There is no "LEGITIMATE School of Thought." Just because there are people regardless of how Many, does not make it legitimate. We know the earth is round. This is a done deal and has been for hundreds of years and there is no serious minded argument to the contrary. We can argue about what is or is not a "School of Thought," but this issue doesn't even deserve that. If we as a society with all of our disparate points of view and beliefs cannot even agree that the earth is round then there is truly no hope of us building any semblance of consensus on anything. I know you are not arguing in favor of this "Theroy" but the fact that this is something that even needs to be debated is tragic.

I agree that it is really sad that we need to debate whether or not a proven fact is fact, but we do kind of need to think before blindly thinking that no one has serious arguements for a flat earth. Even though these arguements are wrong, it doesn't mean nobody seriously beleives in them. Honestly, the flat earth has been thought of long before our time period, but it is starting to pick up speed. The best thing we can do is meet "science" with science and keep on persevering through until the flat earth society realizes it doesn't have members around the space pizza, but around the globe.

Blindly accepting information and rejecting nonsense are two different things. I agree we should question everything, but there has to be some kind of compelling data to justify making these kind of claims. You are right to say that the flat earth theory is an old one, and that's exactly the point. It's been debunked. We can't just dredge up 14th century geographic therories and act like they are legitimate scientific opinions in the 21st century. It cheapens and degrades the real science that is going on all around us and deprives us of the collective knowledge that is available to us if we would just look critically at the evidence. There IS NO serious argument for a flat earth. As I said, this is a question that has been answered definitively hundreds if years ago and being "open-minded" to contrary points of view on this subject only serves to harm everyone, most of all the proponents of this "theory." Garbage science needs to be called out for what it is regardless of how many people believe it and regardless of how strongly they believe in it. They should not given a seat at the table and have their views placed on the same shelf as the things we know to be true. I respect what you are trying to say and I would agree with you on a host of topics currently being debated, just not this one. This is just silly.

If instead of disproving people with facts we just flatly (pun intended) "you are a fool. Go kys you flattard," they will think that they have won because they haven't been disproven. enlighten them with some science and if the thread or conversation goes so long that it nears a 15 minute circular debate, give them some videos to prove your point for you.

I think that's a great idea. I'm not disputing that webshoulf argue the truth. All I'm saying is that we should not pretend that all theories are valid. I am absolutely in agreement with you in that the best remedy for fake science is real science. But we have to stop conflating nonsense with real genuine dissenting opinion.

Ok. I didn't nessesarily mean that we need to say that everything anybody thinks needs to be included, just that we can't just say that they are wrong because they are wrong-you know what I'm saying?

They seem to forget that there needs to be evidence to back up a claim, not just speculation or yet another flawed theory about how the magical sun somehow lights up parts of the world at different times while constantly lighting up the north pole.

Actually, if the earth was flat, the moon wouldn't disappear over the horizon.
2 ups, 6y,

Is that necessarily true? I mean wouldn’t it just dip below the flat edge? What I’ve never understood was that if we had a flat earth wouldn’t every ship fall into space when it circumnavigated the globe? Do they have an explanation for that? Seems to be where any serious conversation about flat earth should start and end.
[deleted]
1 up, 6y
Yes. That's one of the biggest problems with the flat earth.
[deleted]
0 ups, 6y
The way the moon works is like the sun. It revolves around the north pole on the half of the earth that isn't lit up. To accommodate for the different amounts of day and night in a day, the moon will, like the sun, slowly travel between the two tropics while it rotates around the pole. However, there is no scientific proof that this happens or any rhyme or reason, and we would see the moon in day time and the sun at night. In regards to the sun, unless there was some sort of shapeshifting lampshade that somehow always lights up exactly half of the flying space pizza as the sun revolves around the north pole and travels between the two tropics, it would always be day time.
