"Alt" is short for "alternate account" some people are known for setting up so they can "troll" (badger, make fun of, and downvote) other users and give extra upvotes to their own memes and those of their cohorts.
Don't be one of those people.
I don't know if Raydog uses alts. He is on top of the leader board and people poke fun at him all the time.
Maybe I shouldn't have gone so hard with the joking.
If you are a new user don't take it personally. I'm just on the look out for trolls who use alts to downvote memes. If a featured memes gets enough downvotes it goes back to submitted status. Don't be one of those guys.
If your featured meme (everyone can see it as the flip through images) gets downvoted enough, it goes from featured status to submitted status. That means people can't see it anymore.
Users don't like the content of an image so they downvote it, which is fine. But the "alt account using trolls" set up more than one account so they can go onto the images they don't like and give more than one downvote.
This has happened to me numerous times because I like to post politically incorrect memes:
You can't tell who downvoted but I look out for accounts with less than 2,000 points. It is either a new user or a "troll account." If an account doesn't have any "movement" (gaining points, submitting memes) I consider them a troll and don't bother reading their comments. I don't know about this user "Readog" because he only has one featured meme. He joined in December and hasn't posted in months, probably a troll.
This is great informaion... thank you for sharing your experience.
One last question though... why would a 'top user' engage in that activity? This is all hypothetical though, since I don't have enough experience yet to form an opinion. I joined in early Februrary hoping to contribute something to amuse myself and this 'community'.
Also, I am an old geezer... you can probably tell; there are no referencees to gaming or homework in my memes.
I am intruiged by what you wrote. Any additional information would be greatly appreciatd. What ELSE do people do that might fall into the same category?
I don't know for sure that Ragdog or DashHopes or any other top users used alt accounts to give their own memes upvotes. That would be one reason a top user would use alt accounts: giving the memes on their main account more upvotes. I was just joking about Raydog doing that because a lot of other trolls and haters say that is the only way he could have so many millions of points.
"Alt account using trolls" are one thing where they give extra downvotes to a meme. A regular troll just give other users a hard time and likes to argue and make other users mad. Two to watch out for are Jackhenoff and laionsite. They are trolls who love to argue. I don't ever respond to Jackhenoff and won't even read laionsite if he types more than three lines of text.
Since you are new, maybe this will help you too:
I don't have links to their pages. Just look out for the name laionsite.
Jackhenoff deleted his account (I think) and started using one of his alts to troll me and try to get me to argue. Here is a screen clip I took of of his page. Notice it has no submissions and few points. Only troll comments:
I was wrong, Jackhenoff didn't delete his account and the list of top users doesn't have all the users listed. Here is an image that both of my worse trolls commented on. imgflip.com/i/23wlkf
