anyone see the recent Interview with dan rather with Geddy Lee? AXS channel , check it out , they have many concerts and cool rock stuff,Making of albums, this year they showed the making of Dark side of moon. was stellar
Not a big fan of '70s prog (and I was born in '65), and I'd have to disagree with you about it being the best decade for music, despite a general overall quality. Nowadays, with the internet, you just have to know where to look to find good stuff, but because bands can get their stuff out via the 'net and not depend on a record company I think the number of great bands is higher nowadays. For example, and because I happen to be listening to it at this very moment, if you can find a download of Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. you can get a load of good, solid prog/psych from today. (Actually just about anything under the Acid Mothers Temple name.) Or try anything Keiji Haino is involved with, especially the band Nazoranai. I could go on and on but you wouldn't want to read ten or twelve paragraphs now would you? :D
Thanks, I'm not saying there's no good music around these days at all! I'm discovering new stuff all the time! I'll check those guys that you recommended out. Thanks again!
You've got one I've not heard yet. Another one in that form of the band that would be worth hearing "Iao Chant From the Cosmic Inferno". My friend apparently found a stream that provided most of their discography which is huge, despite being around for about 20 years. I need to get more from him sometime.
Just received the Steve Wilson remixes of Fragile, Close to the Edge and Relayer in the post. Three of my all time favourites, wooohooo! His remix of Tull's A Passion Play was absolutely superb! Merry Christmas to me!
they have so many great songs and the 3 members are top musicians, another great Canadian Power Trio is a band called Triumph(like the motorcycle) , if you like RUSH, u make like them too. "Fight the good fight " is prolly the most famous song they had
cool, anytime man, I been a music fan ever since i was 6 and my mom played Elvis. Im close to 50 now so i got lucky growing up with all the cool bands. There are so many bands that do not get any air play on the radio anymore that are stellar. So many greats also had side projects that dont get the recognition they deserve, just keep an ear out and listen to us old guys if you want some ideas lol
I was fortunate to have 2 really good rock radio stations in my area growing up, WMMR and Wysp, they played a lot of cool music. Prolly where i heard RUSH first as a kid. A Buddy of mine used to call up the radio station monday morn at 8am and request "Working man" and the DJ wud play it every time. they were cool
Nice! If my oldest brother wasn't a drummer obsessed with Rush (he idolized their drummer) I probably wouldn't know so much of their stuff. Their tunes were played so often, I was brainwashed by his stereo as I was growing up. Their songs Red Barchetta and Tom Sawyer are two that instantly come to mind.
Drummers eh? Just can't trust 'em:-)
It's amazing how people influence your musical direction growing up. When I was 11, my sisters friend lent her ELP's first and Fragile by Yes, that had such a profound impact on my musical tastes to this day. As I grew up and collected music, one of my younger brothers who was (is) an electronics nerd, used to borrow my music and transmit it over his little pirate radio station from his bedroom :-)
If you get a chance, check out the Sound Breaking doco.
Thanks for the heads up!
To the googlotron!
You young whippersnappers, think you know good what music is - LOL
