I wouldn't mind seeing the downvote option disappear, I just feel that if they got rid of alts one person wanting to downvote wouldn't have a big affect on anybody but we could still use them properly when needed. I personally don't care if one person doesn't like my meme and downvotes it. It's when they get to make their opinion mean more than another's with alts that things become unfair to the rest of us...
While I'm sure I get my fair share of downvotes, It's been a long while since I've been noticeably attacked...I get enough memes on the front page that I'm the last person that's gonna cry about being attacked.
I know it has happened to me before, I just don't get messed with all that much that I can see honestly. I have seen it happen to others but then some of them make the mistake of feeding the trolls as well. I've always thought it would be nice to see a counter on people's profile that lists how many up/down votes they have given out. So if they do nothing but downvote it's obvious and also so that people can see how much some of us "top users" upvote others all the time and aren't trying to keep anybody down.
I just went through the latest memes earlier and surprisingly enough, there were quite a few worth commenting on and upvoting...it was actually kind of weird...LOL
I try to spend some time on latest each day and help get the good ones some traction and to get to know newest users. There's good stuff there for sure amongst all the nonsense.
I wish I had time like I used too...I used to comment as much as isayisay does, but I simply cannot do that anymore.

[image deleted]Hey, RayDog I'm sorry about what I said yesterday, I just was angry with something else and I just wanted you to know nothing on you. I hope we're good.
I'd personally rather see the alts go, I get tired of seeing memes do well that really shouldn't. It can't feel that great to have a meme do good that they know wouldn't have if they didn't alt upvote it themselves. At least I know I wouldn't feel like I had accomplished anything if it was me. Basically the mods just need to become mire vigilant about a lot of things but I don't see that happening unfortunately.
It's a good idea, but it would raise problems of its own.
If say, someone genuinely didn't like a meme or something someone said in a comment, as a one-off, they wouldn't really be able to do anything about it other than flag it, which some might say is going a bit too extreme (obviously circumstances would have to be considered).
Also, some people might not like being able to say they liked something, but not say that they don't like something - it may seem a bit too biased for those . . . strongly opinionated users. And there would probably be a surprising number of users who go along with that opinion, more than you might expect, but that's not really the point.
I think if there is a user or a collection of users continuously spamming another user or group of users with downvotes, then the moderators should limit the number of downvotes these user(s) are able to give, which may make it a bit more fair, and stop perfectly decent memes being downvoted into submission just because one guy disagrees with something another guy said once.
I'd be fine if they would limit the number of downvotes. But something has to be done. When even top members have their submissions downvoted back into submission on a daily basis, and our comments, even comments in our own memes downvoted to low rated it's ridiculous. And I don't think legit people would care about not having the option to downvote. If you don't like it just don't upvote it, same thing.
I completely agree, SOMETHING must be done, because certain aspects are getting out of hand. I see your point about just not upvoting, but I think people might think that if being strongly against a meme/comment and being neutral to it are grouped together in the same bracket, then that doesn't seem right, if you see what I mean . . .
Nothing is perfect. Especially not in this world. Every system has flaws and faults, and it would seem that this issue is Imgflip's biggest. As such, I have not fully experienced the sheer force of multiple downvoters coming at me at once, although I have experience problems with more than a couple of trolls, who no doubt gave me several downvotes along the way. But I have learnt, I have learnt that you should not feed the trolls, else you are just lowering yourself to their level. Obviously, most of the time they are harmless, but you should not take chances. Trolls will always be there, as I said, nothing is ever perfect, but remember this: in darkness, light shines bright. Most people on here may live several thousand miles away from me (I live on a lonely rock in the North Atlantic that my people are brave enough to call "Great" Britain), but I would not see anyone spammed with downvotes. Anyone. Not even the trolls themselves. Yes, they chose to come here and give people grief, but if that's all they really want to do, they should go somewhere else and do it. Because frankly, this is one of the best communities, online or offline, I've ever seen.
If you have read all of this, I thank you, because it's probably fairly boring, but you get what I mean.

Just a thought. :D
