I'm not entirely convinced removing the downvote option is a good idea. It really does help to curb trolls. Downvoting their comments and their troll memes is the only way we have to combat their trollish behaviors since the mods won't do anything about it.

Yeah but the problem is that for everyone one downvote you give them, they downvote you with five alt accounts. And quite a few of us are having our memes immediately downvoted back into submission because trolls hit them with numerous alt accounts as soon as they feature. There's no way to combat that. We'd still be able to flag stuff, and the default downvote would be just to not upvote. Without being able to downvote us most trolls would lose interest and leave.

I've downvoted a lot of rotten comments and some rotten memes and have never had a problem with anyone ganging up on me, but that might be from the fact that I don't usually comment on their rotten comments and memes when I downvote. So they don't know who actually downvoted their stuff.

I honestly don't believe this will do much to curb the trolls. Maybe at first, but these trolls adapt rather quickly. They'll find other ways to harass. I support your opinion and I'll wish you all good luck with it, but I just don't agree with it.

But now we have procedures to prevent alt accounts from existing, like email verification. Probably the best thing the mods could do is either do something about the trolls themselves or implement a thing that makes it so that there is only one account per IP. That way, people would need to purchase new phones, tablets, and computers just to use alt accounts.

I'm all for that. That should get done regardless. I'd also be for simply limiting the number of downvotes per day that an account could give

Why not use alt accounts yourself if possible? Troll the trolls!

Because one, I don't have time to set up numerous email accounts to be able to set up numerous alt accounts and log in and out of numerous accounts. Two, I have no idea who the trolls are since I can't see who's downvoting me. And three, I think I believe in one account per person and would never resort to alts on principle

Well then let's get rid on downvote anonymity. If you downvote a meme, people can see that you downvoted it. Then, groups of anti trolls know who to target.

I'm having totally innocent polite comments to my friends ON MY OWN MEMES downvoted so badly they get hidden as low rated comments. That sort of thing has to stop.

Personally, my usual approach is to either upvote a creation or move on. Occasionally I see a creation that violates the Terms, I'll flag those and include the reason why I'm flagging it.

The two ways I usually contact imgflip are by using the imgflip feedback form imgflip.com/feedback or by sending an email to [email protected] I agree there are users that have abused the downvote button, there's a history of downvote wars on imgflip. I've sent my suggestion in for modifying the downvote system to prevent abuse.

I proposed removing the "Downvote" button altogether months ago . My memes are still being bombed with downvotes , the only way I get upvotes and points is with comments . Alt-using Trolls are ruining this website .

I agree and it's a shame. Hopefully we can get the mods attention and make them realize it.

If the mods remove downvotes, they are doing little more than transferring the responsibility of keeping imgflip non toxic to us. Downvotes will be removed, trolls will resort to posting tons of not-so-nice memes or something from all their alt accounts, and then we can do nothing but flag the memes, which will do nothing since they can make metric tons of alt accounts. We will complain to the mods and they will say "we removed downvotes" there's not much more we can do. You want us to remove memes?" And they'd be right! Downvotes are our only defense, but only one of very many weapons the trolls can wield.

Taking downvotes away would mean most trolls would lose interest and leave. The only way they can really affect anyone is by downvoting their comments and memes. Sure, they can make obnoxious comments, but those can simply be ignored, and by being ignored trolls quickly lose interest. And when they comment it actually helps boost a meme by having more activity, so they are actually doing someone a favor by trolling. As for them submitting memes from alts, they already do that. At least then they wouldn't be able to knock other's memes back into submission or otherwise put them on ice with tons of downvotes.

You act as if these memes and comments will be ignored by everyone. No matter what happens, someone will get triggered; someone will be offended, and those people will keep the toxicity going. And can we stop these memes? No! We're willingly gave up the right to do so!
