Because it's already in motion on land? My guess. Like walking to the back of the train when it's moving forward. You feel like you're going away from the train, but you're really just moving a bit slower than the train is.

P.S. Just like if you jump in the air on that train you will land in the same spot, the train won't move under you. Conservation of momentum. :)

Correct Tipsy. Even though the pilot has exerted vertical force to rise some distance above the ground, unless the pilot exerts horizontal force to counter the momentum of the earth, the chopper and the air for that matter of one revolution per day, the chopper will remain stationary.

It’s called momentum bro however if you are to fly north or south you will run into the Coriolis effect where the earth will move more or less depending on how close you are to the equator and you will have to sort of lead your shot if you will that’s why its not that easy to launch missiles because you have to aim where it will be and not where it is currently at
