The joke is that people who consider themselves "intellectuals" act very aggressively towards flat-earthers. This isn't actually making any claims about what shape the earth may or may not be, it's about people getting mad at someone who disagrees with them. Case in-point: using ad-hominem attacks such as calling somebody a "pseudo-intellectual" instead of seriously evaluating their point of view
