We might get one more for four dogs. Right now two of them are 15 years old. The coonhound is doing great, wouldn't know she's 15.The Bassett Hound is still doing ok. I don't know if she will last the winter.
A Bassett Hound we had, had 11 puppies 9 made it. It almost killed her. It was touch and go for a few days, til she got a transfusion. I was getting ready to bottle feed them just in case. We did buy stuff for it to help her out, it was hard to do. It's awesome you did that. :)
Bassett's only have from 5 -7 puppies. 11 was draining the life out of her. All her numbers were down, but she was one tough dog. She loved people, but she hated other dogs except her mate and her puppies. She wasn't even afraid of taking on a Rottweiler in Petsmart once. Nothing happened, we jerked her away before anything happened.
Yes, Daisy was 13. She lost her eyes to glaucoma a few years before she died. She was blind and you wouldn't ever know it. I was amazing how she would get around without sight. Her mate, Bubba was 14 when we put him down. He was the sweetest dog ever. We still have one of their puppies, Rose. She is 15, which is very old for Bassett's. Your dogs are cool. I guess 2 are boxers, a lab, a collie, and I don't know what the little guy is. :)
We got Buddy from a shelter months ago. He is about 7 years old. Everyone loves to get a puppy, but we have decided to adopt older dogs. Because they don't get adopted as quickly.
I've have 3. Almost at full crazy cat lady status. All rescues and not kittens. Everyone always wants kittens. My oldest was 18 before it was his time :( If they are spayed or neutered it truly increases their lifespan. Thanks for being kind to animals. I believe it shows a persons true character.
I had great cats through the years. I lost some to the country road I used to live on, which really sucks. Only a few cats could be in our house because of the dogs. They made friends with them, not all could do that. I'm glad we moved to a more secluded location almost a year now. Now the cats have to watch out for coyote, Fox, and Bald eagles.
He is very happy. He makes me happy too. We feel we give older dogs a nice place to retire. We don't get the years we could, but if they are happy, we are happy.
Once, he was being his normal self (which is not the most pleasant person...) and he is generally nicer when he is depressed. So his friend tried to depress him by saying "Thousands of puppies die every year" and then said "Oh yeah, I forgot that doesn't work on you." So then he said "Millions of puppies LIVE every year.".....
We got her from the shelter instead of the other blue heeler puppy. We think she was abused in the backyard and that she was chained up in the backyard. She escaped and the shelter found her then before Christmas last year we adopted her and got to take her home the same day. She wasn't very active the first few days because she had a doggy cold. But now she's fine. X)
Thank you :)
