I'm still too young to form a band,but I write lyrics and have a good friend who plays electric guitar quite good.Our goal is to form a metal band that will be different from all other metal bands,to form a brand new metal subgenre(not a fusion genre,since none of us want to make a mess out of a subgenre),and to bring metal back on it's feet.If you look up for modern metal bands,you'll see that most of them are unoriginal,yuck sounding,or simply suck.And that's why a new subgenre is needed.A new way for metal musicians!My favourite bands and influences are Blind Guardian,Death,Gamma Ray,Burzum(partially),Black Sabbath and Judas Priest,and I'll stop at nothing on my way towards my goal!

It sounds really empty and hollow without bass.Just listen to "...and Justice for All" by Metallica.The album is quite good,but,if you focus,you can see it lacks something and that it's shallow,and that is bass.The White Stripes is exception since they keep their music simple,and that ratio between simplicity and musical quality is what makes them so genius and great.Not to mention the fact that basist sometimes makes their band legendary(Iron Maiden,Metallica,Anthrax,Nuclear Assault,Cannibal Corpse,Overkill,all of them with a damn good basist they're known for).Although,I gotta say that guitar and drums only song/album would sound quite interesting :)

Yes it is true that bass is usually required, but I am glad that you see what I am saying about the White Stripes, watching them get big was kind of fun too. I've seen most of the bands you've listed, in one way or another and the bass players do need to be commended. :)
And you don't have to do a band based on it unless you want to, but you never know you could find a new sound. You could test it once you start playing out and see the response you get from the audience. If the audience goes crazy you just might have something. You never know until you try. :)
