No. I was raised in the Presbyterian church, which is as secular as you can get and still be a religious denomination. Which is why it was easy to let go of any pretense of belief when the time came. I'm not a believer but I don't consider myself an atheist. I don't believe in a deity, but I think Jesus was a wise itinerant rabbi whose teachings are very applicable even to the modern world. Atheism indicates an organized, active mode of thought. I'm not a joiner. :) I pick and choose from what I find to have kernels of truth. And I find many militant atheists to be as annoying and self-righteous as righty Christians.

All I can say is that 'I'm not a joiner'. :) I just prefer to keep myself aloof from labels and structured thought because no one idea or concept contains all the truth. I guess 'belligerent atheist' would've been a better phrase for me to use. I find those atheists who are most committed to their beliefs and are willing to belligerently argue them come off as if they are engaging in their own hardcore, unyielding petulance, as if their committed unbelief were a religion unto itself that needs protection from the infidels. I guess what I'm saying is that if someone argues passionately with me to the point where the other side becomes the enemy and not just another person who is capable of reason then I would have a hard time with them just as I do with the most right-wing of the believers on here.
