Grammar corrections are always welcome (at least for me). It doesn't have to be Grammar Nazi week.

But a correction should be for things that need to be corrected, not differences in style or convention. The meme uses the Oxford comma. It isn't wrong. Thanks though. :-)

Well it's one of those things where you more or less aren't aware of grammatically acceptable alternatives. Although at the same time "Oxford comma" does ring a bell. And for whatever reason I find that last comma jarring but hey I didn't rite the roolz fore shure! :D I do wonder how common the use of the O c is within my American cultural mill yew or whatever the term wd be in that I figure to notice it when I see it so wow when did I last see it? <shrug>

Feel free to steal the meme (as always) and rewrite it however you think is better. I never have a problem with people doing that. :-)

Ya I'm cool with that kind of thing though ideally it would be Got this from socrates except I changed etc and for sure no claim to have written it as a matter of principle (as opposed to just not liking the meme much cuz I do like it pretty well except for...you know. lol). Except doing the "stealing" myself...it was special circumstances where I did it during Stolen Memes Week. Just not my thing so much. :D

20 years ago you'd be right but it's now acceptable to add the comma before the "and" or get rid of it entirely. I used to add it but now I omit it after an English professor told me and I had the same argument.

I disagree, but even the reference manuals differ on this topic.

Socrates' sentence was essentially "A, B, C, and D..."

IF he would have written it "paints his house and fence..." then it would have been "A, B, and C..." and I would agree wholeheartedly with your point, but that's not how he wrote it.

The last comma is correct. In the following example, "Today's entrée includes potato salad, corn on the cob, and pork and beans" (pork and beans being one dish), you would leave out the comma.

You would also leave out the last comma if the meme had been phrased, "Sands Mr. Miyagi's decks, washes and waxes all (of) his cars, paints his house and his fence, (yet) doesn't learn any karate.

I think that we're saying the same thing.

We are, but your second example in your comment still had the last comma before "and" (an honest typo). I thought I'd comment to clarify the example.
