Still won't answer the question lol.
Pathetic. Did gop obstruction cause the lose of seats??
You wanna talk about obstruction. By now Obama had 202 appointees. Democrats like Schumer are far more terrible.
For god sakes, one of your leaders, Pelosi still thinks bush is president lol.

And don't act like that tax is to protect the land. It's to put in the pockets of all the welfare recipients and illegals living there. I hope you guys leave the union. Northern California is the only good part of that state. Bunch of emotional irrational hypocrites.

Throughout the country, there are stores that charge for the bags: two locals stores, Aldi's and Save-a-lot, have been doing it for years. Just go ahead and purchase the reuseables or make your own. Hint: don't make them so large that you can't lift them.

The difference is that you're talking about a law that was passed where I'm talking businesses voluntarily chose to charge for bags. And don't forget the exemptions. For example, a Super Walmart, in those states is exempt from this law because they sell more than just groceries. Think they won't take advantage of that. "Shop here and save on grocery bags!" Were the law equal, ALL stores, including flea market booths, would be required to charge for them. Best believe that the stores got behind it. Now they can charge for something that was pure overhead. And at a profit. Regular bags bought through a wholesaler cost between 2.3¢ each and 3.7¢ each. The special, printed bags from major chains, however, can be as little as 1¢ each because of the bulk purchases. So what may cost Vann's a penny ends up giving them a 9¢ profit. Talk about a mark up, protected by state law.

Let me know what you need to tell your state rep. Right now, in the name of ecology, they are increasing the cost of food and the profit margin.

One thing these stores cannot do is charge for bags to customers that are purchasing their goods with the state's version of Food Stamps. Not sure exactly why that is, but it's similar to taxable foods, like candy, pop, and potato chips, being tax exempt in the rest of the country for SNAP recipients.

If the law were fair, ALL stores would have to charge for single use bags. That would hurt Walmart, because most customers would end up paying a buck or more just for bags on the average purchase. How you want to handle it is up to you, but I'm certain you can get enough support from fellow voters via letters to elected officials and letters to the editor campaigns. The worst that could happen is that all single use bags would be charged so that big box stores couldn't bypass it like they are now.

Just so long as they don't change the part about bags used for bulk/loose products like produce bags for tomatoes, peppers, etc, loose bakery rolls for doughnuts, and bags for loose hardware at hardware stores.

From what I see here, I'd say that it may come to your area sooner than expected. A 9¢ profit versus a 1¢ loss: all in the name of the environment? Lessee, if a grocery store goes through 100,000 bags a month (easily done) that would be an additional $9,000 profit without doing anything extra.even if usage drops by 80%, like it did in California, that's an extra profit of $1,800. All in the name of the environment.

Notice, it took a left winger like me to point out it was to increase corporate profit. :-D Next time you go to the grocery, just ask the manager how many bags they go through a month. You'll be surprised. Then you'll see where I got my figures.

So far, the only "tax" I've seen that has done the environment and the communities it affects any good are the refund deposits on beverage containers. You rarely see empty beer cans and such along the road in those places, but where the deposit doesn't exist, you'll find literally, 12 packs of empty beer cans. I'm not saying folks don't toss their cans out, but you'll notice that there is a Stimulus for people to go around picking them up. A dime a can versus 55¢ for 2 dozen cans at the scrap yard? Yeah. the "tax" actually pays for itself.

We need both types, though, as frustrating as they can be. Take the Trump wall. I can't think of one person on the left that supports it, while most on the right are up for it. How do we bring the two together? We could use the Army Corps of Engineers. Our tax dollars already pay for that. Problem? They qualify for Veteran's benefits, which, in the long run, may be too costly. Still, there is a way. Bring back the CCC. I know, it would take some doing because the Republicans fought it all the way to the supreme court and had it declared unconstitutional, so we'd have to get the elected officials to get SCOTUS to reverse that. Or find a way that IS constitutional so that there wouldn't be a problem. Main thing, though, is to have the Army Corps of Engineers run the program as they did in the 30s. Put the young folks that can't find work in those positions as laborers and let them learn as they go. Better than a tech school. Use basically, the same methods used by the CCC for training. No passes to town on the weekends to blow their money. Money to go back home to their parents/wives, small stipend that they can spend at a PX (if your familiar with those prices, you'll realize that a young person can stretch 40 bucks a lot further than they can stretch 100 bucks. Serve a term of 4 years, and they go into the real world with job skills from carpentry to masonry, to pushing heavy machinery. In peace time, they can have their pick of jobs in private enterprise, may start their own businesses if they have the knack, or even, because of the military training in discipline given them, like the CCC did, many can even join the military and advance quickly there. Imagine if the fighting in the Middle East and Afghanistan were to escalate. They've already talked about the draft, including drafting young women for combat. Say that's brought back. Look at what happened in WWII. From basically a standstill, we suddenly had a major fighting force that went into action in a limited time. Why? many of those recruits were vets of the CCC. They rose in rank almost from the get go because they had the military training needed even though they never shouldered a gun in combat. Many platoon leaders, from acting corporal to master Sergeant during those early years came up from the CCC, because they had the training needed to succeed.

Personally, I'd like to see the government just fine the shit out of the traitorous businesses that hire illegals, but that ain't gonna happen.

In Massachusetts it's being left up the cities and towns. And those cities and towns are claiming it's for the good of the environment. I think it's going into the city coffers. BTW those same cities and towns are outlawing Styrofoam containers at all restaurants and eateries. So the food establishments are adding in the cost of more expensive cardboard containers to the prices they charge customers.
