While the CCC of FDRs administration was found to be unconstitutional, it worked well for the young men that participated. It was operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. As such, it was run like an army unit, with calisthenics in the morning, breakfast, work, lunch, work, supper, rest. No time in town for party, as most of their wages were sent back home to help the family. When they left the program, they did so with the training needed as well as military discipline. This ended up being a major benefit to our country a few years later when we were drawn into WWII. Young men who had gone through the CCC training that volunteered or were drafted usually became platoon leaders quickly. A good step for us in helping to win the war. Also, after that training, many young men DID join, prior to the war, and advanced quickly.
