It's happened to me before: someone hands me a $20, I say, "From $20?", and the customer says, "Oh wait, I meant to give you a $10!"

Example: customer pays with a $10, then, when change is handed back, says "Hey, I paid with a $20!" Cashiers can sometimes make mistakes.

A mistake can be innocent - everybody has a brain fart now and then - but sometimes people like to pull scams. Another thing I did when I handled cash was to lay the bill right on the counter or the gas island (this was a long time ago) until the transaction was completed. Then if they, again mistakenly or deliberately, said they gave me a different bill, I pointed to it and said, "this is the bill you gave me."

Cool, I gotcha! One place I don't mind where they call out the bills in Quick Trip, one of my favorite establishments! But they get so many people so fast I can why I would be a good idea to do so! I've never worked retail, or as a cashier, etc, I've grew up on a farm and worked construction, had my own businesses and so on. Probably why I questioned it in the first place! I'd slap the shit out of a few people daily if I had to work retail! Lol. :)
