Chemistry isn't my field, so I'm limited on that. Rarely, though, do those go over my head. The first one I read ever, 20+ years ago, was, of course, Dihydrogen monoxide. I've only been able to pull it into a conversation once, and that was with, of all things, a chemistry professor. Yes, college level. My sister lived with him and his wife, her pastor, for several years, and took care of their home when they were out on missions or vacations. One time, we had a get together at a local steakhouse. He started in on reciting the story about DHMO, but stopped when I asked him if he was sure he knew water he was talking about. The whole table lost it. Why? Well, as I understand it, he's worse than me when it comes to being a know it all. Everyone at the table, including his wife, started rolling their eyes when he'd take the floor with his knowledge. That I shot him down in 30 seconds with a really bad pun blew everyone away. Especially with my deadpan delivery. I immediately followed up with with something like, you can drink all the H2O you want, but if you do, I sure won't have a glass of H2O too.
Still, I love it when Chemistry Cat gets on the front page.
