Then Ken suddenly realized why that particular template seemed familiar....I heard what you wrote with the music playing in my head. :P

State, property, federal, city, sales, and a sugar tax to boot! They just shot down legalization of marijuana (republican governor) but their really is nothing left to tax! Beautiful state but pricey

Sugar tax? Social programming not to get fat? I'm to the left of the political dial but I hate shit like that. Oregon legalized marijuana so we've got that going for us; if the gubmint does stupid just get whacked and forget about it.

the only drawback is the taxes on second properties especially on the lake. Vermont is a high taxed state rents are incredibly high. A two bedroom apartment in my area is $1,300 per month in a State where the bottom 30 percent make between $10.00 to 14.00 per hr. Real tough for people without a trade or an education

Vermont and Oregon are like twins on each coast. Progressive politics and high cost of living. I only pay income taxes, which are manageable, but rents and housing costs in Portland are (too) high. They're building tons of condos in the city with the idea of bringing rents down, but people move in from out of state and buy them up at above-market prices. Then they complain about the homeless pitching tents on the sidewalks below.

Lol, yes fishing is my real job I just build houses as a hobby! Never went to college just started working construction learning the trade and dabble in bar security on the weekends. My son went to UVM and has a degree in computer science and my daughter is a drug councilor lol Have a camp on Lake Champlain for my fishing habit fortunately the wife likes it as long as I have satellite tv!

Hey, all that work got you a fishing camp. All my work got me a nasty beer habit. Not that I'm complaining much...

I'm assuming were around the same age I was born 1960. So yes, probably listen to similar music although the mid 70's until the hair bands came on scene was a sickening mellow time top 40 wise. Then Disco... boy I remember saying to myself this sucks ! Every strip club in Canada played Donna summer love to love you baby all night long when I was a teenager if it wasn't for the girls I never would have gone! Lol.

I popped out of mom in 1965. Cut my teeth on 1970s 'progressive' FM radio so I got the diet of Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Black Sabbath, etc., etc. Stopped listening to anything radio-friendly in the early 1980s. DJed on my college alternative radio station in the mid-'80s. Listened to a lot of Britpop in the '90s but started on post-rock and free jazz. Got back into (extreme) metal in the 2000s. Basically the TMI Ken music history. I work to buy beer and CDs. Everything else is secondary. ;)

This is the kind of stuff I listened to and occasionally still do without the whiskey

Not really a Pat Benetar fan, it's just that I heard the backing music when I read your comment above. :) I have the first 5 or 6 Motorhead albums on cassette, meaning I've had them for a while. Never really considered myself a metalhead up until the last 15 years or so. Nowadays my friend introduces me to the latest death metal or grindcore. We met when I wrote a review of an album his black metal band released, back when I did that for a listener-produced site, and we found out he was across the river in Vancouver, WA. I listen to other music but the metal keeps me sane.

Well the way the laws are written the Federal Govt calls the shots. I remember in the 70's as long as you had under 7 grams cops just dumped it . Paraphernalia was legal to own so you kept your pipes and papers. Life was good ! then Reagan

I lean towards free thinking myself even though most guys I work with drink the kool aid. Cigarettes tax here is $4.00 per pack to discourage smoking. Ha! And yes, sugar tax to discourage obesity but I drink water so it doesn't effect me anyway. Federal govt releasing the DEA on the states that legalized pot? Who knows with That throwback to Zero tolerance Sessions in charge! Reminds me of Reagan and the war against drugs bullshit that failed miserably. I haven't heard Trump beating the war drum on pot so who knows? As it stands the north east hasn't legalized recreational pot but I think Main has starting in 2018

I drink diet pop and beer. :) I've heard talk of a sugar tax in Portland, but Oregon is as libertarian as it is progressive. I think most people here hear about Sessions wanting to clamp down on pot and laugh. He'll have nearly the whole state against him and whatever agents he can send.

Closest I ever came to celebrities is the band Phish was a house band at Nectars when I ran bar security but I thought they sucked lol! Would say I like rock and roll from '50's rockabilly to '90's grunge I have downloaded some of my kids stuff over the years but primarily I still listen to AC/DC (Bon Scott era) and Van Halen ( David lee Roth era) judas preist, stuff like that and Johnny Cash I absolutely love his songs !
1 up, 7y
Yeah, Phish - not my kind. :) I mostly listen to modern metal and few mainstream bands, but I have some Priest (of course) and still listen to Iron Maiden pretty heavily; but they're still a going concern and make quality tunes. Being a child of the '60s I heard it all on FM radio in the '70s. I listened to Metallica and Megadeth back in the '80s, but fell out of metal until the '00s. Started listening to black metal because it spoke to me in the same unstructured way that the free jazz and post-rock I listen to does, then I met my friend. The closest I come to the metal mainstream are bands like Pallbearer (like slowed-down Black Sabbath) and Solstafir (Icelandic hard rock/metal with great hooks). Other than that I prefer grindcore-like metal like Pig Destroyer and Full of Hell. So if you were to see the CDs I have at work - I work on a receiving dock outside, thankfully - you'd see free jazz, noise, and extreme metal, mostly. :)
